Every day, we treat patients with anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Anterior cruciate ligament injury is the most common severe injury in sports where we jump, decelerate and change direction.
It has been proven that it is more common in women and young people during their growth period. In women, it is due to the shape of the hip and lower extremity, among others, that makes movement in some actions more harmful.
While in young people, during the period of growth, the rapid increase in height (which raises the center of gravity) together with the increase in body mass causes control of the trunk to decrease and the ability to absorb the force it receives is reduced. the joint, thus causing its injury.
And what to do?
Well, it has been proven that having good physical preparation is key, since while we reduce the risk of injury, we avoid possible subsequent problems derived from it, such as premature osteoarthritis of the knee or meniscus injuries.
Think for a few seconds… Do you do physical activity and do you take injury prevention into account?
